It is estimated that there are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases. These conditions are caused by an abnormal response of the immune system against healthy, normal tissue. Autoimmune diseases are classified into systemic autoimmune disease and organ-specific autoimmune disease. There are approximately 23 million people in the United States and 20 million in Europe affected by one or more of these diseases. Serological testing is commonly used to detect autoantibodies, such as antinuclear antibodies (ANA’s) anti-extractable nuclear antigens (ENA’s) and other autoimmune associated autoantibodies. MBLI offers a wide variety of ELISA and immunofluorescence assays (IFA) for the detection of disease-related autoantibodies.
