Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. It is the most common neurodegenerative disease affecting over 5 million people in the United States and there is currently no cure1.

S100 Proteins

S100 proteins are a family of calcium binding proteins, where each member has a specific structure and function. S100 proteins have been observed to play a role in various diseases, making these proteins an important marker for disease diagnosis including possible therapeutic targets.

ApoE4 Proteins

ApoE4 is a major component of apoproteins such as chylomicrons, VLDL and HDL and plays a role in the transport and metabolism triglyceride-cholesterol. ApoE4 is now seen as one of the risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease.

 Reelin

reelin-extracellular-matrix-protein

Reelin is an extracellular matrix protein that is thought to play a major role in the development of Alzheimer’s disease through an alteration in the expression of reelin.

Anti-Reelin /CR-50 mAb (Code No. D223-3)

Immunohistochemical detection of Reelin on frozen sections of mouse fetal brain (E18) with D223-3 (left) or isotypic control IgG (right).

This data was kindly provided by Professor Kazunori Nakajima and Dr. Ken-ichiro Kubo (Department of Anatomy, Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo).

 Amyloid beta

Amyloid beta refers to peptides that constitute a major component of the amyloid plaques that are a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. The amyloid plaques tend to form in the spaces between nerve cells.
