|Background:||Faithful chromosome segregation during mitosis a kinetochore is assembled from multIPPle protein complexes at the centromere of each chromatid of a replicated chromosome. A CENP-H/I complex is a member of kinetochore protein complexes and contains 11 components (CENP-H, CENP-I, CENP-K, CENP-L, CENP-M, CENP-N, CENP-O, CENP-P, CENP-Q, CENP-R, and CENP-50). The complex is required for chromosome congression, maintenance of stable chromosome alignment and timely progression from metaphase to anaphase. CENP-50 was also reported as the nuclear protein CENP-U/KLIPP1/MLF1IPP/ICEN24. CENP-50 is a constitutive component of the centromere that colocalizes with CENP-A and CENP-H throughout the cell cycle in vertebrate cells. CENP-50-deficient DT40 cells indicate delay to complete mitosis with apparent premature sister chromatid separation. In human cells, CENP-50 depletion produces misaligned chromosomes and causes aneuploidy.
