|Background:||Faithful chromosome segregation during mitosis a kinetochore is assembled from multIPPle protein complexes at the centromere of each chromatid of a replicated chromosome. A CENP-H/I complex is a member of kinetochore protein complexes and contains 11 components (CENP-H, CENP-I, CENP-K, CENP-L, CENP-M, CENP-N, CENP-O, CENP-P, CENP-Q, CENP-R, and CENP-50). The complex is required for chromosome congression, maintenance of stable chromosome alignment and timely progression from metaphase to anaphase. CENP-K was also reported as the nuclear protein Solt/ICEN37. Kwon et al. reported that centromere localization of CENP-C and Mis12 was dependent on CENP-K protein only in interphase cells and not in mitotic cells. These results suggest that localization of CENP-C to the centromere in interphase nuclei is depend on the CENP-H/I complex proteins including CENP-K.
