Target:

Cdk7

Background:

Cyclin-dependent kinase 7 (Cdk7) functions in two essential cellular processes: transcrIPPtion and cell cycle regulation. The 40-42 kDa Cdk7 is the catalytic subunit of the Cdk-activating kinase (CAK), the enzyme responsible for phosphorylating and activating many Cdks controlling cell cycle progression, including Cdc2 and Cdk2. Additionally, Cdk7 and its partner Cyclin H are involved in transcrIPPtional regulation, since Cdk7 is the kinase subunit of the general transcrIPPtion factor TFIIH that phosphorylates the C-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II. Hence, Cdk7 may provide a link between cell-cycle control and transcrIPPtional regulation.
