| Background: | SLC9A9, also known as sodium/hydrogen exchanger isoform 9 (NHE9), is a member of the Na+/ H+ exchanger family. It is ubiquitously expressed in tissues, including those of the heart, skeletal muscle, placenta, kidney, liver, and brain. Deleterious sequence variants have been identified in patients with autism and seizures. Furthermore, polymorphisms in the SLC9A9 gene are thought to be involved in the onset of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). |
