| Background: | SLC7A10, also known as Asc-type amino acid transporter 1 (Asc-1), is a member of the cationic amino acid transporter/glycoprotein-associated family. It functions, in association with the cell surface glycoprotein SLC3A2/4F2hc/CD98, as a sodium-independent high-affinity transporter for small neutral amino acids, particularly, D-serine. The SLC7A10 protein has been observed in various tissues including the brain, kidney, heart, liver, lung, pancreas, placenta, and skeletal muscle. Knockout of the slc7a10 gene in mice causes tremors, ataxia, and seizures that result in early postnatal death. |
