| Background: | SLC2A13, also known as HMIT (H+-myo-inositol symporter), is an odd member of the facilitatative glucose transporter family, as it specifically transports myo-inositol, not hexoses. SLC2A13 is predominantly expressed in astrocytes and neurons in the brain, suggesting that it may be involved in the control of myo-inositol brain metabolism. Dysfunctions or genetic variants of SLC2A13 associated with neuronal disorders have not yet been reported. |
