| Background: | SLC5A1 (SGLT1) is a member of the sodium-dependent glucose transporter family (SGLT family) and highly expressed on the brush border membrane of the cells that line the gastrointestinal tract. Glucose transport by SLC5A1 depends on an energy generated by sodium/potassium ATPase located at the basolateral cell membrane. A mutation in the SGLT1 gene has been found in patients with glucose/galactose malabsorption. |
