| Background: | SLC6A7, also known as PROT, is a neurotransmitter transporter for L-proline, which is highly expressed on synaptic plasma membrane in brain. Uptake of L-proline by SLC6A7 is sodium and chloride dependent. The SLC6A7 gene is located on chromosome 5q31-q32 in human. In mouse, the SLC6A7 gene is located in a region of chromosome 18 associated with the murine 'bouncy' gait disorder. Gene variants of SLC6A7 associated with abnormal behaviors in human, however, have not yet been reported. |
